Windy city East Coast version 2.27.9

Riding the T to work around 10 AM a guy opens a 40oz and starts drinking. I know showing up to work after a couple of beers might not be the best idea, but I have to congratulate the guy. The least he could do is offer his seat to the lady who more jewelry in her NOSE than ears his seat.

You never die on TV 2.26.9

No idea how Locke doesn't die or how Ben is to be trusted. Let's try explaining to another set of people that we are in magical Island. Time travel seems to seperate mind and body along with space dimensions. Charles is at least helping rather than killing and manipulating everyone. Need help just dial 23. If you can find the exit, in Tunisia an entrance is possible in Springfield.

Heartbreaking 2.26.9

Tough loss last night. Not only the game, but Dominic James. The heart and leader of the team. Sure losing your point guard in the first 4 minutes is tough, but some of the calls by the refs totally changed the game. Four players with four fouls each? Almost every questionable call went against the home team which is difficult to overcome against a hot Uconn team. Anyone want to step out and challenge Price? What looked like a chance for a bye in the Big East and high seed for the NCAA just went down to a 5 seed or worse. It seems we lose a player late in the season every year, but given the lack of depth and no bench players, this is the worst injury yet.

ESPN 7 PM 2.25.9

Huge game tonight on ESPN. Marquette hosts UConn. Not only will Uconn be trying for win 800, but with Pitt losing to Providence it has a chance to step back up to the the #1 ranking it lost last week. Not sure any team wants to be ranked #1 in college hoops since it is a big bulls eye/target for the rest of the conference to take aim and secure a "quality win". Hopefully the SOLD OUT Bradley Center will be rocking and give the team a lift. I wish I was able to attend this game.

As for the Panthers/Bruins game last night, it sure does pay to get to your seat early since the first goal was 30 seconds into the game. It was still cool to see 6 others. Great seats that I wish we were able to get again. I was in Las Vegas for the quality Montreal game so I was 1/2 in the games won/attended. Too bad the Wild won in one of the more boring NHL games.

LOST takes me back to when I want to leave 2.19.9

Spending the first three seasons trying to get off, now spending the remaining one and half trying to get back. No need to worry about Ben's broken arm, injuries. Hurley on the plane? Captain Frank?

Just spend the time with the drinking game and maybe it will make some sense.

Not sure of the name 2.18.9

I'm not sure of the name of hat style, but the type of winter hat with the beanie top and knitted strings with the bunch of knitting at the end of the strings. Not only was it terrible fashion, but the guy wearing it was brave enough to ride the T with a pink and gray hat. I'm guessing he thought the giant beer can wouldn't hit him, but I felt like making a snide comment to the poor soul that guys shouldn't be wearing that.....ever.

Marquette over Seton Hall last night. Great start to the second half. Not so much in the first half. Now the real tests begin starting with Georgetown.

Sure it is Friday and the 13th of February, but we will have the same date next month and again in November.

Louisville really got smoked at Notre Dame, but The Office was on. Pretty decent episode. ASG weekend, but depending on the weather, I might head to the ski resorts.

Lost on LOST 2.12.9

No idea what happened to LOST. Smoke monster? Shooting the other survivors after disappearing? Wanting so much to get off the island and now trying to get back to it? Desmond going with Ben? I thought they would kill each other given the chance, like Sun?

Syracuse/UConn-Great game to watch. Not sure if MU can hang with that much size and ability on both teams.
UNC/Duke-Duke is overrated. Not sure who they played that warrants the #5 ranking, but they are not the best. Neither is former #1 Wake Forest. NC State?

Another loss 2.11.9

Not quite the "big game" bounce back after a mysterious loss. Granted any three point shot Villanova took, with about 8-10 feet of open space, was bound to go in. (stats Allowing Villanova to shoot 72% in the second half and 58.7% in all, double-figure scoring from five players, led by Scottie Reynolds' 27, knocks down 13 of 24 three-pointers and gets 32 points off its bench, that's clearly not going to make much of a difference.). Anytime a team can hang a 100 on any team in the Big East, chances are you will win. St. Johns and Seton Hall then the brutal part really begins.

Big East rookie of the year head coach Buzz Williams comments: "“It was an F, all around,” he said when asked to rate MU’s performance. “I think we played a little bit better in the first half; we were just getting a lot of tough breaks and had guys in foul trouble. The second half, it was just ridiculous.

“Anytime you give up 100 points in a college basketball game, it’s an F in my book. It wasn’t hard to figure out what the problem was. We scored plenty enough baskets. We just didn’t get enough stops.”

Big games tonight, Syracuse at UConn and UNC at Duke. Too bad LOST is on at the same time.

Favre retire.....again? Comments at the Journal:
"One way to get the A-Rod story out of the headlines."
"Happy Groundhog Day everyone!"
"Next thing you know, he's gonna come back out of retirement to start for the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL."
"I'm just glad he's not our problem to deal with anymore."
"Spite is just not a healthy emotion and very rarely does anything positive come out of it."
"I'm sure this story isn't done."
"Are we going to talk about the Green Bay Packers."

MU/Villanova II 2.10.9

Big game tonight on ESPN2 for Marquette. Not sure if beating Villanova at the Palestra will silence the "overrated" crowd, but it would certainly take the sting away from the loss at Southern Florida.

Items to consider 2.4.9

Items from Black Swan Author.

1 Scepticism is effortful and costly. It is better to be sceptical about matters of large consequences, and be imperfect, foolish and human in the small and the aesthetic.
2 Go to parties. You can't even start to know what you may find on the envelope of serendipity. If you suffer from agoraphobia, send colleagues.
3 It's not a good idea to take a forecast from someone wearing a tie. If possible, tease people who take themselves and their knowledge too seriously.
4 Wear your best for your execution and stand dignified. Your last recourse against randomness is how you act — if you can't control outcomes, you can control the elegance of your behaviour. You will always have the last word.
5 Don't disturb complicated systems that have been around for a very long time. We don't understand their logic. Don't pollute the planet. Leave it the way we found it, regardless of scientific 'evidence'.
6 Learn to fail with pride — and do so fast and cleanly. Maximise trial and error — by mastering the error part.
7 Avoid losers. If you hear someone use the words 'impossible', 'never', 'too difficult' too often, drop him or her from your social network. Never take 'no' for an answer (conversely, take most 'yeses' as 'most probably').
8 Don't read newspapers for the news (just for the gossip and, of course, profiles of authors). The best filter to know if the news matters is if you hear it in cafes, restaurants... or (again) parties.
9 Hard work will get you a professorship or a BMW. You need both work and luck for a Booker, a Nobel or a private jet.
10 Answer e-mails from junior people before more senior ones. Junior people have further to go and tend to remember who slighted them.

Six for Pitt Six more weeks 2.2.9

I'm not sure you could draw up a better second half of the Super Bowl. It looked like it was going to be a one sided game, the way Pittsburgh was able to contain Arizona. With both teams missing the run game on either side, and some shady calls by the refs, it made for an entertaining finish. Four happy people hit the squares. A couple just missed with some scoring opportunities that went back the other way. Like 100 yards the other way for the INTTD.
