Resume 2.25.8

Road wins are BIG in conference play. Taking down a hot team on their own court is exactly how you earn higher seeds. The win at Villanova and then another against the Big East leader in Georgetown should set up nicely for the later two FGC and at Syracuse. With the Big East tourney giving byes to the top four nothing is locked up yet but it sure would be nice to get that extra day off.

Excellence is not a singular act, but a habit.

Thoughts regarding pacing vs. talking 2.25.8

... Another type of leadership. Rather than “leading,” there are folks who “pace.” Pacing basically means listening attentively and trying to match the person you’re having a conversation with. If they’re excited and loud, you incorporate that into how you respond. If they’re reflective and quiet, you match that, etc.

Interestingly, people who pace are able to achieve higher levels of rapport. When someone “paces” us, we tend to feel more understood and accepted. When we feel this way, we become much more willing to follow a leader. via -Blog.

I wonder if that has something to do with the Clarence Thomas silence.....for two years.....about not asking any questions?

MS offer 2.23.8

After much consideration, Microsoft's takeover bid of 22B has been rejected. It might have been lost in the coverage of the bid for Yahoo! I can say no performance enhancing drugs were used during the meetings. I'm waiting for the shareholders response.

6th Grade English Paper 2.23.8

For a 6th grade English paper assignment, I once wrote a paper about the sports salaries of overpaid players. The contracts they were signing in 1990 or so was something I felt was out of control. Fast forward to 2008 and the NBA trade deadline and here is the Slate article I would say brings me up to date with how out of control things have become.

MU recap 2.20.8

30 minutes of decent basketball. 10 minutes of lack of focus. Sure they handled one of the worst/youngest teams in the Big East, at NYC/MSG but if you are in cruise control up 20+ you should be able to hang on and win by at least 10. The body of work late in the season is critical to get a better seed. Don't be surprised if they are seeded 5 or 6 out West with a Tennessee or Memphis as a second game. Worse yet is to be in the South with the Duke/UNC seed playing in Greensboro. You KNOW how well we would NOT do against those two.

Happy Birthday Dad.

Cool lunar eclipse tonight. Freezing cold to watch.

3/6 in the lotto gets me 7. Lost tickets for Friday's drawing is as if I didn't win a thing and it costs more for the knowledge that someone COULD have MY winning tickets. Oh well.

Monoply Community Chest comes to life 2.20.8

Bank Error collect 10.....errr....5,000,000. One reason Aaron would have a difficult time explaining things to the police. Apparently they always catch the guy who the money doesn't belong to.

I missed this for the holiday but how many can you name?

President's Day Holiday 2.18.8

Day off from work was uneventful. A somewhat profitable trip to Foxwoods. Can't complain about the cards except how I played a couple of pots. Not sure I was unlucky on a some or just a little fortunate to make the better decision on the others. Crazy table, insane players and fat paydays if you were willing to put 1800 on a single hand.

Marquette looked good in parts in the win against Pitt. The long range shooting was terrible but the inside game is what allowed them to build the lead. St. Johns Wednesday, Rutgers and Villanova. Hopefully they can continue on the roll and keep building towards March.

A little walking around money

Everything went perfect except for the part about getting caught.

Travel on 84 2.13.8

In addition to the terrible weather to drive in, finding the route around a hydrogen gas leak was a chore. I wonder how they found it was leaking. Wouldn't that normally cause a major explosion?

Day off for the day off

Back from NJ after watching Marquette take care of Seton Hall. A looooooonnnnnnngggggg drive back in 4-6 inches of slush/freezing rain/mess up 95 North. Working on very little sleep.

Interesting facts about Newark:
Founded by Robert Treat. He had a bunch of famous family members and a hotel.

Prudential has a BIG part of the city make up.

Old First Church is still the name of the first old church. They do have mass in Spanish now

Third oldest city.

Plenty of old, burnt out, boarded up buildings. Seemingly one on every block I walked along.

Overall rebuilding helps since both the NJPAC and Pru Center are impressive.

Virtual Waiting room 0, Brent 2 2.9.8

Just got tickets to the Yankees/RedSox series for the July 26 and July 27 games. After waiting in a "virtual" waiting room ALL DAY today, I finally checked the browser window and had the chance to purchase tickets. Hopefully it should be pretty cool. You know after all of the steroid and hearings and shoulder troubles for Schilling, that pitchers and catchers report next week.

Fire in London 2.9.8

A video of the snow storm outside of Milwaukee HQ of the JS. Annoying Bradley center advertisements included.

Happy Chinese New Year! The Chinese year 4705 is today. Year of the Brown Earth Rat.

Check out this video of an attempt at rock crawling with an SUV not really built for that type of activity. I wonder what the insurance claim looked like for the truck.

Marquette F-ugly "basketball" 2.4.8

Apparently the HOME team didn't get the memo that they were supposed to show up at the Bradley center to play a game no ESPN. No luck funding the hustle, tenacity, and scrappy play that makes ESPN pick this game to telecast. What a bunch of pretend players! I can't stand to watch a team not improve or fix the common mistakes that NEED to be corrected from losses.

Plaxico prediction

I guess he was giving too much credit to the offense and not enough to his own defense. It must have gotten to Tom to know he took the bait and thought about it with his own response saying all teams should think they will be giving up more points to the Patriots. Fuel the Giants defense much?

Giants over Pats SB XLII

To think 18-0 matters? Not in this one game. 7-3 after the end of three quarters. 10-7. Then with a drive to make it 14-10 one would think those are types of scores that allow underdogs to build a case for an upset. When it is 8 minutes and driving for the go ahead score, set I think the Pats needed a different bit of play calling when it set up first and goal at the 6 with around 2:45 to go. Pass, incomplete, Pass, incomplete, then Pass touchdown. If you run, run, run. It takes time and allows you to score. With the game still in question and a touchdown, 35 seconds and burning through timeouts, barely making catches, but still allowing a chance, New York outplayed the Patriots tonight and that was the key sequence where they failed to close out this game. Kinda reminds me of the Colts sequence of plays where if they changed just a little bit they would win. Hats off to the defense of getting to Brady most of the time. All of those dropbacks? No running game was going and it was a one dimensional attack. Dink and dunk Pats moving the chains with Welker, but no real reason to think your defense will hold again.

As for the Specter investigation I just wish that guy would die. WTF? Are you that busy with the budget, economy, War, jobs etc. that you need to review a private/league/NFL matter with the threat of "collective bargining"? Well if that is what allows congress to sticks its nose into everything than take it away Mr. Bigshot A Hole. I can't stand politicians and I get more and more sick of them every time they think they know better when the law and job details shouldn't have them involved. Steroids? Ha! Way to screw that up to. Mitchell investigation? Pointless.
