Happy New Year 1.1.14

Back from Breckenridge and snow boarding in A-Basin. A cold and overcast day that was poor visibility. It was still fun to catch some fireworks after checking in. Hanging out at Johnny G's upstairs watching Harmonious Junk play some cool cover songs. Warm and tropical location for next year? Well, it well depend on the frequent milage usage. Happy New Year and continue to work on the resolutions.

Trip Planning 7.20

Looking forward to vacation up in Montana. Hopefully the summer weather will be tolerable. Some of the planning could use some help, which so far has been non existent. Some of the planned hikes are going to be super cool. Expect some great photo albums.

Day after 11.7.12

Everyone In Your Life Has Something to Teach You. Hopefully the day after the elections, and the coming weeks, I can find some good. Nothing seems more likely than seeing a 30 Trillion dollar deficit by 2016. The rate this gridlock is going and 6$ Billion in spending to get the exact same stalemate. Should have invested in the gun stocks before today.

November 11.3.12

A man is incapable of comprehending any argument that interferes with his revenue.

It sure is strange seeing the affects of Super storm Sandy. NJ shore was washed away and much of NYC going dark for days. I wonder what the Republican president news coverage would be like.

Writing the script 5.23.12

Interesting NFLPA developments along with the Facebook IPO fiasco. I wonder what other trading losses and VAR models Jamie Dimon and JPM brass don't know about. If you cause 2 BILLION in losses and keep your job, what happens next? Well, instead you can retire. How is that treatment any different than Jon Corzine walking away at MF Global? These Wall Street types are wrecking the average working class.

12 for 2012 2.15.12

Finally got around to putting my resolutions in order.

1 Find a new job.
2 Go to Glacier National Park.
3 Go hiking once a month.
4 Listen to two new albums a month.
5 Try one new restaurant or bar a month.
6 Do an overnight solo camping trip.
7 Cook a Five-Course Meal.
8 Read two books a month.
9 Get certfied training.
10 Go to a Caribbean Island.
11 Go to Wyoming.
12 Go to more Colorado breweries.

Pack at the bye week 11.8.10

Packers enter the bye at 6-3. Could they have a better record? Sure. Any worse? Yes, the Vikings game could have had a different outcome. Same with the opening week against the Eagles and Vick's comeback. The should of/could of wins were the OT games against the Redskins and Dolphins. I grant the Bears game was an exception, but they never seem to play well in Chicago for some reason. It could be a different story in Dallas, Buffalo, Indy, Oakland, and Seattle given the recent performances. That is the NFL these days. One week on top and another you can't wait until next year. Go figure. No football next week and the tough road to Minnesota. Can't wait for December game in Foxboro.

Willing to achieve 11.8.10

John Wooden 99 6.8.10

Another childhood legend passed away. It was a decent tribute on Sunday for the legend in college basketball. He was one of many people who are here able to impart valuable lessons through sport even if you have never met them. I will miss John Wooden, and stop to think that few current college coaches in this day and age will ever compare. Maybe Mike Krzyzewski and a few others at smaller schools out of the spotlight.

Some favorites:

Be true to yourself. Make each day a masterpiece. Help others. Drink deeply from good books. Make friendship a fine art. Build a shelter against a rainy day.

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.

You can’t let praise or criticism get to you. It’s a weakness to get caught up in either one.

If you’re not making mistakes, then you’re not doing anything. I’m positive that a doer makes mistakes.

Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.

If you don’t have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?

Success is the peace of mind that is a direct result of doing your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.

Be quick but don't hurry. When you hurry you're more apt to make mistakes. But you have to be quick. If you're not quick you can't get things done. Those that hurry, in so doing, will get off balance. And balance is perhaps the second most important word we have. It has to be physical, mental and moral balance in everything.

Talent is God-given. Be humble. Fame is man-given. Be grateful. Conceit is self-given. Be careful.

It's the little details that are vital. Little things make big things happen.

It's what you learn after you know it all that counts.

Don't measure yourself by what you have accomplished, but by what you should have accomplished with your ability.

Consider the rights of others before your own feelings and the feelings of others before your own rights.

Failure is not fatal, but failure to change might be.

I'd rather have a lot of talent and a little experience than a lot of experience and a little talent.

A coach is someone who can give correction without causing resentment.

You can't live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you.

Winning takes talent; to repeat takes character.

Not the way I was expecting the season to end. Sure the last 10 minutes was tough to watch, but they had PLENTY of opportunities to finish Washington and the put the game away. I'm not sure what was wrong with the rest of the Big East which caused my bracket to fall apart. Georgetown? ND? Villanova? What gives. I actually had both 11's advancing, but figured I would never hear the end of it if I went against Marquette. Next time total bracket domination over my favorite team.

Finally 1.19.10

We FINALLY get a chance to replace Ted Kennedy. The Mass elections for true representation, rather than the illegal appointment of fill in Senator, is today. I wouldn't be surprised if the Democrats pull off a Florida and try to withold the will of the people. Somehow a Republican victory will result in a lawsuit. Voting for Coakley is agreeing that tax and spend is the way of the future. Not in my book. She is not a worthy Senator. I don't think Brown is much of a candidate, but if he can vote against Obama's destruction of the United States, he is the best choice for Americans and Mass voters.

Good day to turn 30 1.11.10

Happy 30th Birthday Anne Marie! The computers recognize 30 as 11110 which is today's date.

After watching the Baltimore Ravens destroy the Patriots and the start of the Green Bay/Arizona game, I wonder what is it about the NFL Playoffs that I fear watching. The OT gut punch ending or the first quarter pack it up and find something better to do today? As for the game, I would say wait until next year, but looking ahead it would be all road games, in a dome, as an underdog. No way we would have a chance barring OT miracles. Then to face what is most likely a killer offense in Manning and the Colts? No thanks.

Result of the start of the Packers/Cards: a cleaner apartment, revised online profile, better fitness, lower stress, and progress toward 2010 resolutions.

Festivus airing of daily life 12.23.9

Some things in life come across as a WTF? Did that just happen? You aren't sure how to react. For example, a trip to the mens room where in order to flush the urinal, a co worker karate kicks the handle. Sure I'm all for the avoiding spreading flu, but this seems to take measures to the extreme. Other times you wish you had the ability to block calls on public transportation, to save the other passengers sanity. Like yesterday. What would normally be an uneventful train ride home turned into an hour plus ordeal due to a train derailment. Sitting next to a lady who can't stay off the phone. Yes her turn by turn directions in Spanish kept everyone on her contact updated. 15 nervous seconds later, placing another call. 30 seconds, another call. 10 seconds another call. 25 seconds another....well you get the idea. For a 15 minute trip down Mass Ave, she must have made over 100 calls. Keep it simple and hang up.

Wednesday recap 9.17.9

Luck is one of those things that if you believe in it, you can make a day, week or longer all seem good or all bad. When you're having good times you believe luck is on your side, but when times go bad you blame it on luck. When you're having a bout of bad luck, here's how to change it back to good.

QJ off, flop Q/9/5/J all in on turn, called by 9/10 river 9 to suffer the first bad beat.
A9 Suited. K/Q/10 two spades. Turn Jack. All In call vs. Q10 rivers a Full house 10. Yet another bad beat on top of the ones from the earlier tournament.

Sox come from behind win against the LAA Angels. What a game.

More Boston corruption. Michael Joyce.

By last game as Toronto Blue Jay, three or four games ago, before the trade deadline expires and he is still with the team. Not thinking they would trade with Boston or New York within the division and failing to pull off a deal with Philadelphia. Who knows what Theo has cooked up? I think we make one deal for a bat that won't pan out.

I'm not sure if the media coverage is planned, but it seems a simple arrest in Cambridge is National news. A dubious event that I don't think matters is one that wouldn't make it past the oh, this is compelling to Americans? How? So they can see how f'd up Cambridge is? That police make mistakes? That all of it WAY overblown. The President and every op-ed has an opinion on he said/he said stories. Lawsuit in 3.....2.....1.

Enough with Michael Jackson. BREAKING NEWS! A lawyer will take care of his will. How? I can't wait until this drawn out coverage dies.

A man on the bike through Porter Square was easily 250-300 pounds, but he had the helmet and sunglasses rocking to almost pass for Lance Armstrong. Well, besides being way too big to ride a really small bike, the facial hair, failure to yield to pedestrians, and the overstuffed messenger bag.

Random photo from Orlando 6.15.9

What is the name of that building in Orlando that is upside down?

Lakers Penguins 2009

Down to one sport now. Baseball. The Lakers took down the Magic, 4-1. and the Penguins were able to win a road game in Detroit to take the NHL cup over the weekend. It was cool to watch the Celtics, Bruins and Red Sox all at the same time. Sometimes at the same time as Boston had home ice/court advantage. Sure it made it difficult on which game to tune into, but it was certainly a problem worth having.

A little early for the Father's Day present, but it was cool to have my parents in town for the weekend. Along with the visit, I found out some information about my great-great-grandfather on my mother's mother's side. Coming to America in the early 1900's and leaving Austria-Hungary must have been something else. Certainly not like today.

The volunteer group for the Marquette alumni of Boston did a great job Saturday. If you are out along the Charles way way down by the North Eastern Boat house in Alston, we were planting at the Mary Caroline Herter Memorial Garden. A neat little off the path place for a picnic or rest from rowing if you are in the Charles River boating.

Went to see Up. The new Pixar movie about the adventures of trying to float a house with balloons. I liked the movie, but it still seemed sad to me about how much Mr. Fredricksen missed his wife. He still had some excellent adventures and what I would think is a happy marriage, but I have a feeling they could have made the sense of adventure complete a little less Pixarish.

Marquette finished 3.24.9

Sometimes life is just one big tease. Sure the game ended with a fluke step over the inbound line with a little over five seconds, but the way the team competed in making it close was just agonizing. I didn't know what to expect for the NCAA tournament. I was considering getting West regional final tickets and airfare knowing the seed, matchups, location and planning a last second escape from the Boston cold, to sunny Arizona. Not to be. Not next year since this was a one in a million chances. Hopefully I can look back at these games and learn that I can do little besides dream big and hope for another magical run sometime soon.

First day of Spring.....and the brackets are already toast. Hat tip to Jon for having a perfect bracket. What does day 2 hold in store? Hopefully a little more upsets. Sorry Anne Marie, I thought VCU playing in Philly would be enough to overcome the travel weary UCLA team.

Another loss on the road 3.5.9

Another loss to a highly ranked team on the road. Sure a 23-5 run to start the second half built a 9 point lead, however this team is WAY too good to let that rattle them. A couple of questionable calls again changes the course of the game. Hardly anyone in foul trouble for Pitt, but Blair/Young/Fields are the best of the BEAST. Hopefully the Syracuse game will give them a little confidence before the tournaments. The only consolation was beating the Pitt fans in Stump Trivia. Finishing in third overall by only a few points. The pictorial questions were the toughest and failure to act on the correct answer for the most points for the half time actress. Not bad considering the amount of $5 pitchers consumed.

White March 3.2.9

Yes a another loss. This time to a poor shooting Louisville team in Freedom Hall. Sure plenty of lost opportunities we failed to take. 4 point losses suck, but not having McNeal anywhere near a decent shooting game really lost it for us. Not sure if the coach could afford to sit him for a brief period to help him understand you need to do something different in order for our team to win. Not to just take wild shots. Not a chance agains Pitt.

Not sure of the name 2.18.9

I'm not sure of the name of hat style, but the type of winter hat with the beanie top and knitted strings with the bunch of knitting at the end of the strings. Not only was it terrible fashion, but the guy wearing it was brave enough to ride the T with a pink and gray hat. I'm guessing he thought the giant beer can wouldn't hit him, but I felt like making a snide comment to the poor soul that guys shouldn't be wearing that.....ever.

Marquette over Seton Hall last night. Great start to the second half. Not so much in the first half. Now the real tests begin starting with Georgetown.

Viva Las Vegas recap 1.15.9

Back from Las Vegas trip. Cool time at the MGM and the David Copperfield show. Up some at the poker after the show. Nice dinner at the Bellagio after playing in the noon tournament at the Venitian. 5 hours of play and no cash. Down at Roullette at the Bellagio, up at the Wynn cash game. Down at the Wynn cash and slots the final days, which over shadows the up at the Wynn sports book. Overall within budget, but it would have been nice to fly back up or more money than you arrived with. Hopefully another promo comes along so I can try and win my money back. The only thing I brought back was a bad cold and runny nose. Return weather is just as bad as when we left last Sunday.

Case study rock and hard place 1.7.9

Interesting happenings over at Boston College. The AD, Gene DeFilippo, fired head football coach for talking with the JETS. Now how is he going to consider coaches from other institutions? Wouldn't they be under contract to those schools and now wants to ask coaches to do the same thing (interview for a better job) that he just fired his own head coach for? I'm not sure how you put yourself in his or Jeff Jagodzinski shoes, but it seems like a no win either way, and not too many would want to be a part of those situations. How many "friends" are you going to fire?

Day late 12.24.8

I can't believe I forgot Festivus. Funny that the year end review took place the same day.

As for the Packers/Bears game, I shut it off when the kicked the field goal to go up 17-10. By going for it on 4th and 1 and converting to a new set of downs at the 7 I would expect a touchdown. As soon as the passes fell incomplete, incomplete, incomplete, FG, I knew the game was lost.

The Marquette/NC State game was entertaining to watch. Clutch 3 point with .4 seconds left. Somehow they converted the inbound and turn around at the top of the key just a couple of seconds late. Big road win as they will probably get destroyed against the Big East foes.

Rain snow warm cold 12.17.8

A difficult game to watch last night. Sure Marquette hung around for most of the game at Tennessee, but the fouls were too much to overcome. Matthews was a scoring machine, the rest of the team was not, and it seemed every possession the refs found something to blow the whistle for. No flow, no size match up and a road environment to contribute to pulling of an upset. We'll wait for the Big East teams to pick apart this NIT bound team.

No chance at the playoffs this year. The Packers will be off in January, since they lost to Carolina when they should have won. I'm not sure the defense bothered showing up in the last 2 minutes as it took Carolina less than 10 seconds to move the length of the field. Nice chance to win the game at the goal line, but rather kick the FG?!?

We are living in the Matrix. At 9:30 AM I shut off the tv after flipping between channels at a certain point in the Matrix movie. When I came home around 9:08 PM I turned on the tv at the EXACT same spot it left of in the movie. No I do not own a TIVO or DVR to stop the action. Just a little freaky. But I doubt that some big black dude or hot actress (Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus) or an above average looking Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity)) is out there trying to find me.

Philly fans can celebrate, but I don't think they stand a chance against the AL, but I would like to see them finally win a championship. They are SO over due.

30 8.15.8

A Happy Birthday! What a finish at the Olympics for Michael Phelps record 7th Gold medal swim. One more to break it. I still can't believe the times and how many break records, but those close, heart stopping touches to win. UNBELIEVABLE!

Crazy 9.92 second run, in the quarterfinals, that makes it look like a walk in the park. I remember when breaking 10 seconds for the 100m was thought to be really really fast. That was max effort but that is more like a training session now.

Boxing, Kayaking, Tennis, Basketball, Softball, Soccer, Track and Field, Swimming, Diving, Archery, Beach Volleyball, Indoor Volleyball, Gymnastics, Greco-Roman Wrestling, Rowing, Cycling, and that crazy weight lifting mistake that goes to show you the elbow bending inwards with 400lbs over your head is NEVER a good thing, are just some of the sports I've seen so far.

Favre to J-E-T-S 8.7.8

Trading Brett was the only way out of the "stalemate". Sure he wants to play, but not with the understanding that you will be the backup. Not sure what happens if/when Rodgers is injured. I wish he would have taken his time 6 months ago so we wouldn't have this day, especially coming off of the NFC title game in Green Bay.

2.If a body meet a body. A look at the LA Coronor's department following the people who take care of those without an ID. Not for a weak stomach. Not even Mike Rowe and "Dirty Jobs" would do that work.

Getting the forms in order. Schedule D, A, E, X, F, 1040, 8880, W-2, W-4, 1099, INT, all the alphabet soup in order to find out I now owe money. I know the founding fathers didn't set our government to be like this so what do we need to do in order to get some kind of fiscal order set up?

Now the state taxes want medical information? Sticking their nose in business that they don't belong. I think this is the last straw for this state.

Currently 3.9.8

Currently reading: The New Money Masters, The Starfish and the Spider, The Best and the Brightest, Professional No Limit Hold'em.

Listening: Katonah, Andrew Bird, Etienne de Roucher, The Faint.

Watching: College basketball. Hoops all week baby! Brackets out next Sunday. Ummm...did I mention college basketball games were on? Oh in between was the Best of Packers on NFL. Super Bowl in New Orleans versus the Patriots. MNF against Oakland. Playoff against Seattle. More college hoops. A little Family Guy. Some little bits and pieces of old school The Sopranos. Meadow is young.

Doing: Tax returns. Stupid credits, deductions, AMT. Now they want my medical coverage? When does government make it any easier on the taxpayers? These people suck and need to be subject to the laws they write. SOB's!

Waiting: For better weather. The wind nearly blew me down. Not that I'm a small person either. For Full Tilt Poker to allow me to win some of the hands and not have people suck out on the river chasing the fi(%ng river card. To fall asleep since the Daylight Saving Time went into effect. It still feels like 10 PM.

Wishing: One winning lotto ticket in the Powerball Wednesday. For the number of times we have played ONE winning ticket will do. It seems the winners are never from RI or MA. We need to change that.

Job Creation numbers 3.3.8

The casino bill that is being considered here in Massachusetts has some people disagreeing on the the number of jobs created. Even with "a construction budget of $1 billion" everyone is missing one key element....not once has a government project been met the goal of the politicians. Look at the Big Dig. This is Boston. Look for the Unions along with the lawyers to delay this cash cow as much as possible. Sometime around 2020 if ever and with costs 5-10x more than budget.

President's Day Holiday 2.18.8

Day off from work was uneventful. A somewhat profitable trip to Foxwoods. Can't complain about the cards except how I played a couple of pots. Not sure I was unlucky on a some or just a little fortunate to make the better decision on the others. Crazy table, insane players and fat paydays if you were willing to put 1800 on a single hand.

Marquette looked good in parts in the win against Pitt. The long range shooting was terrible but the inside game is what allowed them to build the lead. St. Johns Wednesday, Rutgers and Villanova. Hopefully they can continue on the roll and keep building towards March.

Travel on 84 2.13.8

In addition to the terrible weather to drive in, finding the route around a hydrogen gas leak was a chore. I wonder how they found it was leaking. Wouldn't that normally cause a major explosion?

Day off for the day off

MNF Recap Sox Parade 10.30.7

Watching the Sox take the duck tour boats through the parade route of downtown Beantown. Pretty cool to have these once or twice a year for four or five years. As for the Packers MNF win in Denver, it was HUGE!. Glad to see Favre play well and have somewhat of a running game show up. Tough to go 99 yards and only get a field goal. Winning teams score TD's and don't need OT.

Foxwoods 300 No Limit Shootout

October 07, 2007

Falling behind on the NFL season. Packers, Cowboys, Colts, and Patriots are the only teams still undefeated. Not sure how many would have had those four teams as the choice to start the season without a loss. Probably in the order that they will see them fall. The Patriots play the Cowboys next week and the Colts later in the season to determine the AFC playoff picture.

As for the NFC, the Thanksgiving game is turning out to be BIG.

Off to Symphony Hall later for a Sunday Matinee.

Decent weather in the forecast for the Boston area? It only took some crazy snow storms in the Spring to make you miss the good weather. I'll give it a day before it turns to 50mph gusts and it starts to cloud over.

In other news some crazy copycat at NASA.

Yankees/Sox series starts tonight.

National Marquette day tomorrow. Trying to find a ride to the place.

Market Meltdown quote 2.28.7

Kent Brockman: Hordes of panicky people seem to be evacuating the town for some unknown reason. Professor, without knowing precisely what the danger is, would you say it's time for our viewers to crack each other's heads open and feast on the goo inside?
Professor: Mmm, yes I would, Kent.

Lost 2.14.7

One reason I don't follow too many television shows is because trying to keep track of all of the little stories, deciphering meanings, looking for clues from each show, putting all of the pieces together and figuring out just what the heck is going on, just leads you down a path completly different than what the writers wanted. Lost is the perfect example. I can't figure it out. No need to keep watching, but somehow the addiction only gets worse.

Cleaning up the place

Getting rid of some of the unwanted junk in the place. Same with the site. Would have gone up to Sunday River for some snowboarding except for the 40-55 mph gusts in 20 degree weather. Not what I would be looking forward to.

Reading 2.1.7

Squares for the Super Bowl are sold. I don't have any good numbers. Finished The Stupidest Angel and Mezzanine. Two pretty strange books that are quick to pass the time on the subway. Getting a lot of the paper work done so I can file my taxes. Hopefully some decent weather to get out of the house this weekend since it has been pretty cold the past couple of week ends.

TOD 11.29.6

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Weekend update 11.6.6

Went to catch a movie, too bad it was sold out before I even got downtown. Delays in the T made the trip an extra 25 minutes. Doubt that would change things, but figured, since most people don't like stepping outside their comfortable little world, I would try out a new place. Not a bad evening.

Packers lost to Buffalo. Can't figure out that play call at the goal line when you NEED the touchdown. Tough month of teams only gets worse.

Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad

An anniversary (from the Latin anniversarius, from the words for year and to turn, meaning (re)turning yearly; known in English since c1230) is a day that commemorates and/or celebrates a past event that occurred on the same day of the year as the initial event.

Many anniversaries have special names. Generally speaking the longer the period, the more precious and/or durable the material associated with it.

Happy 4th

Happy 4th of July. I hope everyone had some awesome fireworks displays, because Boston does one of the best every year. Tonight's show was AWESOME! Good music with the Boston Pops, Aerosmith, some Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego vocalists, and some great fireworks music to match the display. I just wish they did this more often.

Weekend Recap

A pretty good weekend here. Dave and I off to Foxwoods mid Saturday. Up in the 2-5 No Limit Cash game. A better turn of cards than the last couple of trips. Dave actually hit a Royal Straight Flush. A jacket or poker chip set were his choice. Then Sunday for our another charity poker game. Up early but careless play later hurt my chances. Wrong time for an all-in against pocket Aces. Same in the second game when I finished second to another pocket Aces.

Change in travel plans

Another successful ticket allocation. This time match 42. The answer to everything in life? Well, if you were watching the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy, yeah the supercomputer spent all of the time finding it, but the Ghana/US match in Nuremberg is the correct answer. Decent seats? Not sure yet but the price category or ticket zone is better.

Happy Easter. Beautiful Sunday weather.

Would you rather part 10

Would you rather:
smell like dead fish OR rotten eggs? Rotten Eggs. I think dead fish would cause some to turn and run.
walk backwards OR crawl on your hands and knees? Walk backwards. I think we all out grow crawling.
drive everywhere in a golf cart OR a dump truck? Everywhere in a dump truck. Easy moving stuff just in case.
be stung by a bee OR bit by a spider? Stung by a bee. Spiders can turn you into mutants and have you swell up.

April 11, 2006

Finally got my Federal tax return in the mail. Interest free loan to the Government. Not as much as I was hoping for but money back none the less. Some how the state return was a few weeks earlier. Go figure?

Like the Packers 2006 schedule. Here. Don't like how long it takes Favre to make up his mind as to whether he will return as QB.

Still no points in APL play for April but 4 final tables in March brought me within striking distance of the top 10 from our location. Not bad for one session a day/week. Just imagine if I could make the early start time?

April 02, 2006

Daylight Savings

Anyone feel that losing that hour isn't worth it? It seems at 1:00 AM it should not jump ahead until later in the day.

Pretty good link from Yahoo about how to find what you really want to do. Land your dream job.

Yeah George Mason made it interesting for about 17 minutes in the first half but gave it all away to a better executing Florida team. As for UCLA defense, it made LSU look like a JV team. UCLA to win it with a defense that Florida probably can't figure out withing 48 hours.

Recent Events

Jury duty. One big get there on time and sit around doing nothing. A good way to get out of work and read. That's all you can do before they send you home.

Leader in three different pools at work. Not one will pay off I'm guessing because of Kansas. Over rated much?

As for Would you rather:
be an evil genius OR a super-spy? Super spy. Evil school is not for me.
be addicted to eating raw eggs OR sticks of butter? Sticks of butter. Mmmm....butter.
punch hulk hogan in the face OR throw a rock at george bush? Punch Hulk Hogan in the face. Chances are the Secret Service would shoot on site and ask questions later.
have bionic eyes OR one bionic arm? Bionic eyes. X-Ray vision with the premium version.

Tax Filings

2005 Tax returns are finally done. No less confusing than previous years. What gives with over 500 pages of explanations for a simple form? Crazy politicians make things worse every time, and here I thought I would want to do these things all of the time to make a living.

Are you more sports superbowl and more

Are you more...

01) One who will buy twice as much discount beer/wine/liquor or one who will buy half as much premium beer/wine/liquor? Buy half as much premium beer.

02) A fan of self-help books or a person who thinks most of the self-help industry is based on scamming? Scammiing is more like it.

03) A meeting lover or a meeting hater? A meeting hater.

04) Hockey or soccer? Soccer. World Cup!

05) Basketball or football? Football.

06) Baseball or golf? Baseball.

07) Golf driving range or batting cage? Golf driving range.

08) Potentially disapproving of a person's lifestyle or potentially disapproving of a person's attitude? Disaproving of a person's lifestyle.

09) The funniest among your immediate family or the craftiest? Maybe the funniest, but doubtful.

10) Apt to disbelieve a politician until they prove themselves truthful or apt to believe a politician until they prove themselves untruthful? Apt to disbelieve a politician untile they prove themselves truthful. One thing the US Government is known for is attracting corrupt figure heads.

Would you rather...
bungee jump off a tall bridge OR go cliff-diving in acapulco? Cliff diving in Acapulco.

come home to find your house/apartment/etc burned down OR burglarized? Burglarized. I've already had that happen. Wouldn't want to lose it all with a fire though. Just take the items for your drug habit.

invent a new form of renewable energy OR a cure for cancer? Renewable energy.

drink a half-gallon of lemon juice in one sitting OR a cup of worscheshire sauce? Half gallon of lemon juice. Seems you add some sugar and you get lemon ade.

Super Bowl XL picks: Pittsburgh 34- Seattle 24. Good for the squares I have too :)

Act II was a disappointment along with some of the craps playing. That's why they call it gabeling though. Stayed out way later than I was expecting or hoping for.

Marquette leading Villanova and narrowly pulling off two ranked team road upsets has to count for something. Tough to play that well in that environment and come up short. Hopefully these close losses account for something.

Enjoying the MLK Day off

Spending some time catching up on sleep here. Enjoying having the day off from work. Probably catch up on some sleep, clean up around the apartment and read some while the weather changes from 55 and rain to 10 with gusty winds in a matter of hours.

After watching the Marquette/West Virginia game, I couldn't believe how many 3 points WV had. Sure enough a new school and Big East record 20 of 38 sunk the Warriors. Even though they played them tough in the first half, and cutting the lead down to 3, it wasn't going to happen the way they played perimeter defense. We were Pittsnogled. Gansey was on fire early and Young played well in the second half. Rutgers over DePaul was a bit of a surprise. Pitt over Louisville wasn't.

As for the remaining playoff teams, It looks like Denver and Seattle are the two favorites. With the Bears and Colts going down to Carolina and Pittsburgh. I thought once Bettis fumbled and set up a decent return that Indianapolis would force OT. I guess a 46 yard field goal try is more difficult in playoff "Die or Advance" circumstances. With no chance of the three-peat all of the New England fans will be wondering, what happened.

Politics in Boston

On the way to work, I noticed something that might offer an insight as to how Boston residents choose Presidential candidates years in advance and might offer additional clues as to what teams they root for. On the beaten up Ford truck read Belichick/Theo in 2008.

January 11, 2006

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday Anne Marie.

In Packers land, apparently the new head coach is Mike McCarthy. The former offensive cordinator of the 49ers got the nod over favorite Jim Bates.

Along the Marquette/Seton Hall game, MU won their first road Big East cupcake Seton Hall. Steve, one Sam LaGrassa's lunch tomorrow.

In other news, Jury Duty. Oh those tricky civic duty punishable by $2000 fine or jail time. Well, make sure to put it in a city that might be T accessable and then I'll show up, but Woburn? WTF? I better pull out my Boston map and figure out which side of the state it is on.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year! Down to Atlantic City for a little late NYD fun. Well, not so much fun when Ceasars and Trump Plaza take a good bit more than I walked in with. Craps was alright but no open BJ tables.

As for the football season ending yesterday, the Packers took down Mike Holmgren and the Seattle Seahawks. If it was Brett Favre's last game at least he went out a winner for one of the few games they did win this season.

No major predictions for 2006. Stock market likely to trade in the flat line. Some fed watchers think inflation and interest rates will stop rising. Well, most likely with oil so high the rates will have to keep rising. More likely 6-7% is the range by year end. Dow 11200.

So you think that story of an upside down Christmas tree is fake? Well, think again. I've come across an MSNBC link and photo regarding hanging the tree upside down.

Back up in Boston

A long, tiring drive back up to Boston from South Jersey is complete. I certainly had a good time with family this Christmas. Glad everyone made it home safely. A short work week until the New Year strikes. Then another 4 day short work week. For those with some time off this week enjoy, since my boss has blacked out those days. Go figure.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas! Everyone made it home this year. No white Christmas this year. Too warm for snow. Just some rain.

December 10, 2005

Went to catch the new George Clooney movie Syriana. Nothing great, but a thought provoking movie somewhat based on fictional and realistic events. Still, I would rather check out another The Lion, The Witch and The Warddrobe first.

Got my phone back, which beats going to the Verizon store and spending to get a replacement.

Sick now which really sucks.

Snow here yesterday, change over to rain, and then another 5 inches. Making conditions pretty New England like. Crappy snow.

In more exciting news, the World Cup soccer draw was held. The match we got was Switzerland vs. France. Pretty cool. It could have been Togo vs. South Korea which would be strange if you ask me. Additional ticket sales start 12.12.05. Yes, backwards day month year format could still read month day year we Americans are used to.

As for Christmas lists......or shopping for family, I'm in need of some cool ideas or suggestions, so let me know.

A pretty cool new computer at home. The coolest/best computer ever made. Now for the DSL upgrade. Why Verizon doesn't have access to areas Comcast does is beyond me?

Ideas for Turkey leftovers and tryptrophan (sp?) cures?

Fantasy team took another loss and had some of the better Turkey day performances on the bench.

First Snowfall

The first snow flakes falling before Halloween here in Boston. Having a conversation with a co-worker a couple of weeks ago, I made the bold prediction that we would be having a snowfall for his kids trick or treating. Odd how those things come true. I should have played the lottery that day.
