Idea sparks 1.4.9

How do you spark ideas?

What inspires you? What wakes you up and puts you in your most creative place? Do you have a conversation, doodle, space out, write everything down, go jogging or take a shower?

How do you capture ideas?

When ideas happen, how do you grab and retain them? Do you carry a notebook, write on your hand, write on a friend’s hand, leave yourself a voicemail, or use some online tool? What does your knapsack of inspiration look like?

How do you implement ideas?

Foxwoods Weekend 12.10.7

A decent weekend at the poker games. I wish I had done better on Saturday so I would be able to get into the deep stack tournament qualifiers. I will take the positive results from the game and consider my luck of good cards along with the Packers and Marquette victories and consider at a great weekend.

Three games left and the Patriots have an easy route to finish 16-0 and lock up a bye for the playoffs. We'll have to see how the NFC shapes up to see if they can stay with 14 points come February.

Lifes Reaction Lesson 11.28.7

Your success in life, and in the realm of day-to-day living will depend on how you deal with adversity and problems you encounter. Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. Be a positive person - remain upbeat and concern yourself with finding a way to succeed instead of focusing on all the reasons you cannot. I wish some people would take this little lesson and repeat it to themselves when they encounter "the little things" that don't quite go their way.

Remember that the true measure of a person is how they treat people who can neither help nor hurt them.

June 01, 2007

Thoughts for today 6.1.7

Since a severe thunderstorm has rolled into Boston and rain out the Yankees/Sox game, I'll post some thoughts for the day:

1. Quality The race for quality has no finish line.
2. Opportunity You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take.
3. Teamwork Teamwork is the ability to work toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishment toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.
4. Focus Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you fail to focus on your goals.
5. Determination The race is not always to the swift; but to those who keep on running.
6. Competition Whoever said it's not whether you win or lose that counts, probably lost.
7. Perseverance The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but a matter of will.
8. Success The harder you work ... the luckier you get.
9. Effort Some people dream of worthy accomplishments while others stay awake and do them.
10. Passion There are many things in life that will catch your eye, but only a few will catch your heart ... pursue those.
11. Risk You can't reach your goals without occasionally taking some long shots.
12. Success Some people dream of success ... while others wake up and work hard at it.

Diet tips from the 1500 Century 5.17.7

Leonardo Da Vinci suggests:

If you want to be healthy observe this regime.
Do not eat when you have no appetite, and dine lightly,
Chew well, and whatever you take into you
Should be well-cooked and of simple ingredients
He who takes medicine is ill advised.
Beware anger and avoid stuffy air.
Stay standing a while when you get up from a meal.
Make sure you do not sleep at midday.
Let your wine be mixed with water, take little and often,
Not between meals, not on an empty stomach.
Neither delay nor prolong your visit to the toilet.
If you take exercise, let it not be too strenuous.
Do not lie with your stomach upward and your head
Downward. Be well covered at night,
And rest your head and keep your mind cheerful.
Avoid wantonness and keep to this diet.

When is it okay to hug a new person?

Finished reading Satisfaction about the brain reacations to things people enjoy. Decent read on the chemicals and explanations for tests on the brain.

The best way to become obscenely wealthy is still the old fashioned way in 4 simple steps.

Western World Version

1. Take outrageous risks with extremely high upside.
2. Be the 1 out of 500 million for whom it pans out. This one is key so focus on it.
3. Attribute your wealth creation to your own hard work, your own genius and the power of your business plan. Be sure to stress how your wealth was singularly made possibly by your unique endowment of elbow grease, street smarts, common sense, all of which your competitors obviously lacked (proven by how poor they are compared to you).
4. Buy a mega yacht and/or athletic team.

Russian World Version*

1. Acquire assets illegally either from or with the help of the state. Extra rubles for seizing commodity related assets
2. Kill all your rivals.
3. Buy a mega yacht and/or athletic team.

Lack of experience diminishes our power of taking a comprehensive view of the admitted facts. Hence those who dwell in intimate association with nature and its phenomena are more able to lay down principles such as to admit of a wide and coherent development; while those whom devotion to abstract discussions has rendered unobservant of facts are too ready to dogmatize on the basis of a few observations.

Time For Sale 9 6 6

Anyone have seven hours for sell? With that type of requests with non-performing computers and "test regions" you would think you would try and come up with better solutions rather than asking for things you know you can't get.

Another Up Trip to Foxwoods 8.28.06

Another good run at the 2-5 NL Texas Hold'em Table. I had some poor plays and bad laydowns in some monster pots but also lucked out on some other monster pots with some good hands. Overall play was solid other than a few late costly hands that halved my chip stack. Weather and car ride back were terrible. Whatever Mark ate don't ever feed him the same thing again.......just plain wrong.

Weekend update

A good trip to Foxwoods Saturday. Spent about 8 hours cleaning up at the 2-5 No limit. Golf Sunday wasn't as good. It was fun to get out once again. Every 15 years by my count. 147 on the course in tough, wet, rainy, puddled, fairways and greens. If you discount the poor course conditions I would have played much better. Monday was almost another good day at the APL poker game. I made the final three and was in position to win the MVC but made the first, but not the last, mistake of the night. Happy with points but disappointed with none in the second game. We'll see how tomorrow's and Thursday's sessions go.

Birthday

Another year older. Some minor eye irritation kept me up most of the night. Still bothering me some today. It helps today is pay day, but otherwise having to work on your birthday should be a given holiday. Rain most of the day so the weather is a little gray, but hopefully it will clear later.

As for photos, some from my recent trip are up at August 2006 folder. Enjoy.

Philly Link 8/6

Random Philly link: Philly Future.

10 Year Reunion last night at the Cherry Hill Hilton/Crown Roayle hotel. Decent turn out. Some people haven't changed much. Some have. Not sure how many really have done much but plenty starting families and staying in the area.

Poker Home Game 8/3

Played a home game. 16 people for about 4 hours that puts me out on the bubble. Only top three pay and finishing fourth is the worst place to be. No luck in the late, late, late, cash game set up later. On the good news front is the mid year bonus coming on my birthday, but to offset that is the lateness in processing the OT for the past few weeks in my "new" group.

Off to New Jersey for the 10 Year Reunion this weekend. Then Gettysburg and Richmond. I just wonder if the Mass legislature will pass the Tax Free shopping to coincide with my absence again. I missed it the past two years with big purchases. Hopefully the lottery ticket buy-in pool at work will hit and make all the WSOP Acts I, II, III worthless and just buy into the main events.

Random Quote

"If anyone can show me, and prove to me, that I am wrong in thought or deed, I will gladly change. I seek the truth, which never yet hurt anybody. It is only persistence in self delusion and ignorance which does harm. "

Feared Causes of Death

I guess if you were to forecast and get your wish on how to pass away, you might choose one of the following: Feared deaths rather than giving up one of the vices that lead to more deaths.

Secrets for Sale

Probably not the smartest way to sell the confidential information from some Coke executives. I just wonder how people so stupid can get promoted to pull these stunts off. Details here.

German Art

One of the places we went while we were in Munich. You can browse the collection just as we did and check out some of the cool paintings they had.

Germany trip comes to an end.

Our last leg of the trip is today. We fly back to the US tomorrow early AM. If you need anything from the duty free shops let me know. Otherwise, look for the postcards or call me and I will tell you about the first trip to Europe.

Germany has been great. The weather even better. The beer the best. The food is good and the education is priceless. Hope everyone could have as much fun as us.

Cheers to the remaining teams still left to play. If I can score tickets I will gladly come back.

Spelling Bee

Words from the National Spelling Bee are up at the web. Round by round results and the correct and incorrect spelling of the words. For those at home playing along, I only got three correct. Next up will be geography.

Advice for Changes

"Having a strong work ethic is very important. You must always do what it takes to get the job done."

"Sometimes you need to be adventurous and take opportunities that may be very different than anything you’ve done before. Take the chance, do the best you can, and learn as much as possible from the experience."

"There are so many good people out there that you need to find a way to stand out from the crowd. Figure out how to differentiate yourself. Pull out of yourself that which makes you unique and different, and use this in everything you do."

"Be responsive when people need your help. Work hard and demonstrate that what you are doing is for the company. When people know that you have the company’s interests at heart, they, in turn, will always be responsive to you."

"Change is the name of the game. Accept it, look for opportunities that may come with it and learn to use it to your benefit."

"Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want. Plant the seed and let people know that you are ready, willing and able to do other things."

"How you handle yourself in a crisis or when you’ve made a mistake can work to your advantage. If you’ve made a mistake, admit it. But put a plan in place to correct it and don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it. At the end, you may come out better than you were before."
