Spelling 5.29.9

Laodicean-lukewarm or indifferent, particularly in matters of politics or religion. Not that much of a challenge word, but I'm guessing they have the entire dictionary memorized. Maecenas-a generous patron of the arts, was the elimination word for the runner up. Congratulations to the finalists. It appears a successful run here, along with the geography bee, is a precurser for getting on JEOPARDY!

Six for Pitt Six more weeks 2.2.9

I'm not sure you could draw up a better second half of the Super Bowl. It looked like it was going to be a one sided game, the way Pittsburgh was able to contain Arizona. With both teams missing the run game on either side, and some shady calls by the refs, it made for an entertaining finish. Four happy people hit the squares. A couple just missed with some scoring opportunities that went back the other way. Like 100 yards the other way for the INTTD.

Update 1.27.9

Awesome win at Notre Dame last night. Great defense against most of the team. No stopping Big East POY Luke Harangody. He made almost everything he threw at the rim. Not sure they get through the rest of the Big East without losing a couple of games.

As for the rookie coach, Buzz Williams, I think he has done a great job given the team and parts he has to work with. I would like to see a little bit of production from the bench. You can't expect 4 players to carry the entire team ALL season long. Save something for March.

All the squares are sold, numbers drawn, and it is the same thing EVERY year....How do I get the worst possible combination of numbers? I can't stand watching two teams, Arizona and Pittsburgh, that I have zero interest in. Maybe next year.

Interesting topic starters:

Name three songs you'd put on a road trip mix tape.
Name three overplayed songs that you love anyway.

Christmas 2007

Spent Christmas weekend down with the family in South Jersey. Company holiday party pictures are awesome. Some are better at karaoke then others. Needless to say a good time.

Hopefully everyone got what they wanted. Otherwise it will have to wait until their birthdays in 2008. I'm currently working on the new year resolutions. Always keeping in mind you can improve yourself and make others around you better as well.

Currently reading: The Black Swan, The Bridge of San Luis Rey,Positively 5th Street,The Essays of Warren Buffett, and another tournament poker book. Hopefully I can sit and finish them before the new year.

Downloading songs from Itunes. Artists: Feist, Papa Mali, Fela Kuti, Arcade Fire, and others. I have some more Itunes cards to use. Send your best of list and I'll take a listen.

Rough trip to Foxwoods over the weekend. Although I almost picked the winner of the Kentucky Derby in my wager on the horse. 2nd Place Hard Spun led pretty much throughout the race only to fall to second down the stretch.

WSOP Starts in Las Vegas

8580 entries into the WSOP Main Event. Top prize of over 11.5 Million. Not quite playing a home game. Chances of a repeat? My chances of qualifying failed. Free cash flow doesn't allow me to enter either. Maybe in another 5 years I will enter when the field is only 10,000 plus.

Tough questions and President's Day Recap

First off, huge wins over ranked teams in two days for the program. We're dancing with that resume. Freezing cold here in Boston leaves plenty of time for filing tax returns.

As for the questions:

1. If you could go back and relive one moment or day from your life, without changing anything, what would you re-experience? A very tough question. Probably out on vacation hiking in the Grand Canyon. Snowboarding out in Utah. Floating in a lake back home. College graduation. Times with family riding horses.

2. If you could witness a moment in history, again without changing anything, what would you want to see? The fall of the Berlin wall. Another tough question where events take place that I would like to see, but not being able to change anything that happens.

3. If you could talk to a younger version of yourself, what age would you visit and what message would you give? 8th Grade graduation with a little bit of advice as to what to expect and challenge for High School and college.

4. If you could choose one moment that would be guaranteed to happen in your future, what would it be and when would it happen? Nothing in life is guaranteed, but having successful grand kids travel along my world tour. Some time within the next 30 years.

5. Pretend you left a time capsule for yourself 5, 10, 15, 20 or more years ago. You just opened it. What three things from your past are you now holding and what age were you when you buried them? TBD. I'll have to give some thought to the items I want buried.

Phone Loss

If you want to return my phone, "staff at the Burren" let me know. Otherwise, just give it back.

Phone Loss

If you happen to receive a call from my old cell phone, that is not me. I plan on caceling the service tomorrow AM, if I can find it. If not, please disregard all incoming calls from my old number. Sorry about the inconvienece. Apparently someone would find it amusing to take someone elses cell phone from there jacket. I plan on giving out the good number sooner or later if Verizon has some kind of deal. Thanks. Brent.

Oh, and if you were the person who found a cracked LG flip phone last night at the Burren bar in Somerville (Davis Square) please let me know. No harm no fail. What you hope to get out of it I have no idea but if you return it sans any more damage, let me know. Thanks.

As for the stupid bouncers who thought I was not able to find a phone, and "report it to the bar", what do you think I am doing trying to get back into the place without my personal items. I really should figure out what you would want from me in order to restore peace in the world. If not, you fat piece of crap can go back to causing mayhem elsewhere.

Back up in Beantown

Back in Boston after a 5 1/2 hour drive back. Some snow in Central CT through the Mass pike. Windy now with some severe wind chills.

Good food today. Time for a nap to catch up on the lack of sleep and get ready for all of the work that has been piling up. Easy to handle one Friday, although work wouldn't originally give me the day off because everyone else has it off.

Turkey Day Vacation

Down in New Jersey for Thanksgiving. Back up to Boston for work on Friday. Easy drive down to North Jersey and off to the South Jersey tomorrow.

Went to see Harry Potter. A pretty decent movie. Some cheesy teen scenes, some cool wizardry/dragon scenes and a little death throw in for good measure.
